One Year On

Day 1 - History: Part 1 of 4

HISTORY
After a taxi driver, Barry Holworth was found robbed, beaten and left unconscious, DC Kezia Walker followed up on the oyster card found at the crime scene. Ellie Gladstone, claimed she lost it weeks ago. Ellie, who was very cagey, has a criminal past and now lives with her sister Carmel and her baby.

In Part 1's video DCI Jack Meadows assigns Sgt Smith to the case, as someone from his past is involved.

LIARS
Ellie was removed from the list of suspects, as the bottle, used to hit Barry over the head with, did not have her fingerprints on it. She still claimed she hit him because he tried to rape her.

Barry’s movements were tracked to the Solar Night club, where Chris Hemmings identified him and added Barry was there twice last night.

TWIST
Whilst Barry lay in hospital with a slow bleeding ruptured spleen, his wife told PC Roger Valentine they had debts. Barry had to go to a loan-shark, and there another motive for his attack was realised. Hemmings was the money lender.

Meanwhile Ellie continued to lie about the events of last night. Her sister Carmel is arrested in a fresh twist to the investigation: find out in Part 3's video why!

FAREWELL
Carmel was abused by her mum's boyfriend as a girl. Realising that Barry could have simply collapsed on Carmel in the back of his taxi, Leanne Samuels was brought in to the interview with her. Carmel explained Barry was helping her find her necklace one moment and the next he just lunged at her. She didn't realise he had been attacked earlier and was suffering from a ruptured spleen. The pain and effect of this injury kicked in on Barry hours after the assault.

With the investigation wrapped up and Chris Hemmings charged with the taxi driver’s assault, Smithy shared a fond farewell with Leanne in Part 4's video.
