Contraband
Sgt Smith was not happy to be working alongside PC Ghir today; he annoys him. They informed Louise Harwood that her boyfriend Art Minshull was in hospital after being found in a lay-by with a brutal head wound. Art’s a truck driver who works for his dad Roy. DC Jo Masters discovered Art had hidden contraband on his truck – find out what he was smuggling Part 1’s video.
Hijacked
CID had to determine if the people-smuggling and the hijacked lorry were a coincidence? Art admitted to Jo he had smuggled in a woman and child. His dad Roy was suspected of pulling an insurance scam and being behind the hijack – not for the cargo but the valuable cab transporting the trailer. Now the missing woman and child were trapped in a missing trailer. Art risked his own life to save his illegal passengers find out why in Part 2’s video.
Motive
Roy had kept quiet about the fact that he had to surrender his HGV licence last year and that he’d run up a massive gambling debt from poker with Colin Sage. FIU reported Roy’s haulage firm had slipped into debt over the last year. The tacograph from Art’s truck was found and, the location of the trailer. Part 3’s video shows Roy squaring up to his partner in crime.
Suspended
The trailer was found but the woman and boy were still missing. PC Mel Ryder realised PC Arun Ghir’s code of police ethics had left him, when she saw he was the last person to call Louise – obviously to warn her to get her friend to safety before the police did. Sgt Smith overheard Mel’s disapproval. Getting a non-apologetic confession from Ghir left Smithy with one option: Ghir was suspended from duty pending an inquiry.
