Cry Wolf

Cry Wolf - Discovery: Part 3 of 3

“He's got a duvet on my face. He's got my jeans and pants off... I can smell the beer on his breath...”

Chilling statements like the above are all too familiar to those who work with victims of rape. But as few as one in 20 cases leading to conviction, delivering justice is notoriously difficult – and it could very well elude 17-year old Caitlin Macey too. The teenager she accuses, family friend Grant Shepherd, is released without charge after questioning – a turn of event that sends Caitlin further down her emotional spiral. She discusses the night of the attack in our first exclusive preview video…

DC Mickey Webb, meanwhile, is determined to continue with the investigation. “Girls who cry off don't go into such specific detail,” he suggests. And girls who make things up don't take an overdose either. But has a confused Caitlin accused the wrong man? Well, before Mickey can prove it either way, he's going to have to track the tormented teenager down. Join the search in our second video clip…

A trip to hospital and another round of gentle questioning follows, with Caitlin's confusion about the evening's events suggesting that the detectives are dealing with a case of 'historical rape'. This means that the attack had actually taken place some years previously, and that the night of the party had served solely to jog a repressed memory. But can Mickey pinpoint exactly when the assault took place? He makes a discovery in our third video…

With a clue in his evidence bag, Mickey, is fired up for further investigation. However, a cynical Banksy has other ideas – and Manson is also dismissive. After all, with a non-existent crime scene, no forensics and no suspects, they're “relying on the hazy statement of a teenager and the unlikely hope that whoever did this is going to confess.” Will Caitlin ever find out who raped her, and be able to move on with her life?
