When Kim broke into Miss James’s classroom and spent the night there, it was a cry for help. Miss James used to be in a relationship with her dad, Dr Russell Patterson. She broke it off after witnessing such sorrow in the family and suspecting the doctor was abusing Kim.
Kim couldn’t admit to what had been going on between her and her dad, so the school couldn’t pursue the issue any further.
The investigation into Becky’s aggravated burglary did uncover the truth: Kim was a victim of covert abuse. Her dad’s grief for his wife who died six years ago gave him mixed emotions for Kim who looked so much like her mum. He didn’t sexually abuse Kim; but she feared his attention could lead to that.
