Attempted Murder
Mike Vincent had been fleecing Tommy Mackenzie. Tommy is his dad’s primary carer since his mum, Barbara, left six months ago once Albie’s Motor Neurone Disease was diagnosed. Barbara left Tommy with a bank card so he could draw the benefit payments out. This is what Mike Vincent took from the young boy.
Albie had no idea that his son was being blackmailed. When he confronted Tommy about it, he confessed that Mike had threatened to tell the social services about Albie’s worsening condition and they would take Tommy into care.
The next time Mike paid a visit to Tommy’s home, Albie confronted him but was knocked unconscious by Mike. Tommy arrived home to see his dad on the floor and fearful he’d be taken into care, cleaned up the blood from the attack and reported his dad had only collapsed.
This was a tough investigation for DS Stuart Turner to crack. Thwarted initially by CSE Eddie Olosunje who assumed the scene was a simple aggravated burglary. A witness placed Mike Vincent at the scene, the time of the incident. Knowing the weapon used on Albie was a cricket ball, Stuart called Mike’s bluff and got a confession from him.
